SHOULD YOU GIVE THE ADJUSTER A RECORDED STATEMENT? | Insurance Tactics

Did your adjuster ask you for a recorded statement? Be weary of the tactic the Insurance company is trying to use against you…..

First off, there are different types of statements Insurance companies typically ask for:

1. Liability – This is a statement where you give your testimony of how you believe the accident happened.

2. Injury – This is a statement where you give your testimony of all the current injuries you have from the car accident and the type of treatment you have received.

You may be saying right now “But I already gave a statement when I filed the claim….”. This is your first red flag notice that tells you not to give a liability statement. Insurance companies want to do everything they can to use your statement against you…. Here are ways they like to do it:

❌If you gave a statement when you made a claim, they want you to give another one to see if they can poke holes in your testimony. Adjusters are experienced in this area & will ask repetitive, as well as confusing questions to get you to contradict yourself.

❌If an adjuster can’t get you to contradict yourself with how the accident happened, they may try to get you to say enough to partially blame you for the accident. They will ask “how fast were you going?” or “Did you see the other driver before the accident happened?”. One of these questions is asked with hopes you will say you were going faster than the marked speed limit. The other question is asked with hopes to get you to admit you had time to stop which could have prevented the accident. If they can get you to trip up even a little bit, they may assign 20-30 or more % of fault on you. That puts you in a position where you can only get part of your car repaired and part of an injury settlement.

In regards to an Injury statement, here are some reasons why they want you to give one:

❌They hope you minimize your injuries.

❌They want you to forget to mention a body part that is injured that is show in the records.

❌They want you to say something about treatment that will not benefit you.
